Senior softball teams compete in the heat
     Oh, those Canadians.
     They cleaned up in a senior men’s softball tournament put on by North Country Pub June 28-29 at The Plex in Okanogan.
     Ogopogo 65s won the 65-and-older division, and the Ogopogo 60s won the 60-and-over division, reports Shirley Bowden, Pub senior team manager. Both teams are based in Kelowna, B.C.
     “North Country Pub played the role of good host,” she said.
     The Pub went 0-5 in the tournament.
     Ogopogo 60s turned back the Pub in the coolest game of the tournament 16-1 on Saturday morning.
     Temperatures topped 100 degrees by the final game Sunday.
     Leading Pub hitters included Dale Linklater, 2-2, and Jim Lewis, 2-2.
     In its second game, Mill Bay won 18-8.
     Leading hitters included Linklater, 2-2; Lee Pilkinton, 2-3; Neil Riebe, 2-3, and Lewis, 2-3.
     In the hottest game Saturday, played around 3 p.m., the Pub fell 14-8 to the Wenatchee A’s.
     Hitters included Al Lashinski, 3-4; Pilkinton, 3-4; Reggie Reese, 2-3; Dave Johnston, 2-3; Linklater, 2-4; Riebe, 2-4, and Lewis, 2-4.
     On Sunday morning, the Pub dropped an 18-8 decision to D.K. Stanley of Buckley, which was last year’s tournament champion.
     Hitters included Riebe, 3-4; Pat Zlateff, 3-4; Rick Staton, 3-4; Reese, 2-3; Mike Knowlton, 2-3; Lashinski, 2-3 with a double; Linklater, 2-3; Pilkinton, 2-4 with a double, and Roy Bowden, 2-4.
     In the final game in Sunday’s extreme heat, the Pub fell 23-16 to the Ogopogo 65s.
     Hitters included Pilkinton, 4-4 with a triple; Linklater, 3-4; Staton, 3-4; John Sloan, 3-4; Lashinski, 2-4, and Zlateff, 2-4 with a triple.
     For the tournament, Linklater was top hitter, going 11 for 16.
     Right behind were Pilkinton, 11-17; Lashinski, 9-16, and Riebe, 8-17.
