An Okanogan County swim team took third place at a regional AAU meet July 12-13 in Toppenish, reports Sandy Colbert.
The team included swimmers from Methow Valley Swim Team, Omak Swim Team, Okanogan Swim Team and Brewster Swim Team.
“The kids did quite well,” said Colbert, who said 10 teams were competing. Okanogan County Swim Team took 55 swimmers to the meet.
Methow’s Madison Caeser, 9, broke the meet record in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:59.52) and three relay teams took first place, including a boys’ team that set a meet record.
The boys’ age 9-10 200-meter freestyle relay team (swimmers from Methow and Okanogan) set a meet record of 3:10.01, more than nine seconds under the previous record of 3:10.53.
A girls’ age 9-10 200-meter freestyle relay team (swimmers from Methow, Omak and Brewster) took first. The team included Kathryn Bosco, Madison Caesar, Amanda Knowles and Miriah Sonneman.
A boys’ age 13-14 freestyle relay, which took first, included Nic Ulmer, Sam Trudeaux, Alex Bosco and Brendan Colbert.
John Caesar, Methow, was coach.
“Kids enjoyed stepping up the competition and the distance,” said Colbert, noting the pool was 50 meters long compared to county pools that are either 25 yards or 25 meters.
They all made new friends and had a great time competing and hanging out in the tent city poolside for the weekend,” she said.
