A new services facility for Omak High School football fans, including restrooms, concessions and ticket sales, should be in operation in time for fall games, according to a district announcement.
The 2,600-square-foot facility is one of the final projects in the district’s $21.9 million high school remodeling program, according to principal John Belcher.
The primary reason behind tearing down the old football concession stand and press box was student safety, Belcher said.
Football fans will have access to restrooms without having to enter the high school building during non-school hours, the new concession stand will bring food services into full compliance with public health regulations, and the design will assure better security and supervision of ticket sales, according to the announcement.
A second floor will include separate areas for both visiting and home team spotters plus announcer and broadcaster booths.
Belcher said the new facility will incorporate fencing for better crowd control. It is designed to address the issue of unsupervised youngsters and is more likely to keep them in the stands, watching the game, he said.
Contractor for the main high school remodeling work, Levernier Construction, was the low bidder at $406,000 among four bids received. High bid was $450,000.
Original estimates for the project two years ago were around $300,000.
