Column: Lockwood locks up CTL rushing title
Omak’s C.J. Lockwood finished the year as the top rusher in the Caribou Trail League.
Lockwood, who often had to carry the offensive load for the Pioneers (4-3 league), finished with 1,107 yards in seven CTL games. He edged out Chelan’s Derrick Talley, who rushed for 973 yards in CTL games.
Lockwood picked up 104 yards in a non-league seasonal opener and 96 yards in Omak’s lone post-season game.
Talley had 194 yards in a non-league game to start the season, then played two post-season games to rush another 140 yards.
Coincidentally, they finished the season with 1,307 yards each.
**********
Speaking of football, I heard that Tonasket Middle School went 13-0 the last two seasons, a feat not done for at least 20 years.
**********
A listing for all-league football supplied by the Caribou Trail League included at least a couple misspelled names involving Cashmere.
Josh Mason (not Mann) was named CTL defensive player of the year.
Phil Zukowski (not Zukoski) was named coach of the year.
The names were incorrect on an Excel document supplied by the league.
The Chronicle did catch some misspellings for county players including Rylan Springer (not Rilin), Omak, and Jed Mintzer (not Mitzer), Okanogan.
**********
Omak’s new girls’ basketball coach knows the excitement of state after working for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association for eight years (until 2002) as head of basketball statistics.
He says he saw a lot of basketball and some great players, including Jason Terry and Luke Ridnour.

Chronicles of the Okanogan
A history of the Okanogan Valley as published in the pages of The Chronicle.
A century ago, The Chronicle was founded, in part, as a voice for the residents and community of unincorporated Omak.
This 100-page, large-format book presents a unique look at the history of the area as told by the newspaper's publishers, editors and reporters.
