Chelan’s inside game, coupled with a pressing defense, eventually wore down the Okanogan boys for a 48-43 basketball win Jan. 10 on the Goats’ court.
The Bulldogs led by four points, 38-34, with 2:45 remaining but wilted down the stretch when Chelan went on a 14-5 run.
Jake Suder led Okanogan with 11 points, 4 steals and 2 blocked shots.
“Our guards did a very good job attacking their press and bringing the ball up the court until the last two minutes of the game,” coach Tony Block said.
Mat Engstrom led Chelan with 24 points (10-14) and 16 rebounds (7 offensive).
“We simply had no answer for Engstrom inside,” Block said. His team had 8 offensive rebounds compared to 13 for Chelan.
“Our big guys had a very difficult time playing against Engstrom,” Block said. “He is bigger, stronger and simply wanted to win more than our bigs did inside.”
Joe Harris added 10 points.
Okanogan played host to Omak on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and plays at Brewster on Friday, Jan. 16, in a rescheduled game.
