Oroville boys, Liberty Bell girls advance to state 2B tourney

     WENATCHEE — Oroville boys and Liberty Bell girls each earned a No. 2 berth to state following finals played Feb. 28 at Wenatchee High School.
     Oroville boys topped Soap Lake 62-51 for the second seed. The Hornets open state against White Swan at 12:30 p.m. March 4 at the Spokane Arena.
     Liberty Bell girls knocked off Kittitas 40-36. The Mountain Lions open state against North Beach at 7:30 p.m. March 4 at the same venue.
     Oroville opened the week beating Soap Lake 52-42 on Feb. 23. The Hornets then fell 53-43 to Entiat Feb. 26 for the No. 1 berth to state.
     That set up a rematch with Soap Lake, which eliminated Bridgeport 51-28 Feb. 26. The Mustangs fell 49-40 to Entiat in the opening round.
     Oroville’s Brandon Funston scored 24 points against Soap Lake.
     Oroville (62) - Funston 24. Rowton 11, Wolley 10, Kinman 8, Mills 8, Iverson 1.
     Liberty Bell girls opened district with a 43-36 win over Manson Feb. 23. Entiat defeated Kittitas 40-36 the same night.
     On Feb. 26, Entiat stopped Liberty Bell 57-46 for the No. 1 berth to state.
     The same night, Kittitas eliminated Manson 51-33.
     Liberty Bell then played Kittitas, using a 12-1 third-quarter run to pull out the win.
     Kelsey Gray came off the bench to produce 12 points and 9 rebounds. Her free throws in the final minute provided an added cushion.
     Shelby Scott scored 12 points to go with 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists.
     Liberty Bell (40) - Scott 12, Gray 12, Ferrill 5, Clements 5, Kulsrud 3, Bradshaw 3, Stahl 0, Stevie 0.
