Burke named Ferry County Prosecutor

REPUBLIC — Ferry County commissioners selected former Deputy Prosecutor Kathryn Burke as county prosecutor until the position is up for re-election in 2016.

“I know it’s going to be a ton of work, but it is something that is very close to my heart,” Burke said. “It is not something that I expected to happen, but it is something very important to me.”

Burke, 31, moved to Republic in 2014 to work as deputy prosecutor. She worked for former prosecutor Emma Paulsen until Paulsen’s death in July. Burke was named interim prosecutor.

Burke graduated from the University of Washington in 2006 and completed her law degree from the Seattle University School of Law in 2011. She became a member of the Washington State Bar Association that year.

Burke was born in Tonasket. Her family moved to Republic in 1988 and then to Omak in 1996. She graduated from Okanogan High School in 2002.
