CHILIWIST Less than 24 hours after Okanogan County commissioners voted, 2-1, to vacate Three Devils Road, area residents have already raised more than a $1,000 to fund filing a lawsuit against the county.
With little discussion, Commissioners Sheliah Kennedy and Ray Campbell supported the vacation during Wednesday's 2 p.m. meeting.
Commissioner Jim DeTro opposed the vacation, which would give a three-mile stretch of public roadway to adjacent landowner Gebbers Land and Timber and close it to the public.
The company requested the vacation.
Following the meeting, outraged Chiliwist residents vowed to see to it that Kennedy and Campbell are voted out of office. They also decided to hire an attorney and sue the county to prevent it from giving away a valuable route that connects the rural Chiliwist area to the Methow Valley.
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, 18 people had donated a total of $1,030 to a GoFundMe.com call for help to pay for an attorney and to file a lawsuit.
The donation account is online at http://www.gofundme.com/sjdauc.
The account for legal fees was initially opened April 21.
