OMAK – A plume of smoke could be seen rising from the center of Omak around 9 p.m. Wednesday, as an old outbuilding on South Ash Street caught fire.
The Omak Fire Department was toned to the fire at 514 S. Ash St. at 9:12 p.m., Fire Chief Kevin Bowling said Thursday morning.
When the 16 firefighters arrived, a shed-type structure was fully involved, and a wooden fence, tree and another storage shed also caught flame, Bowling said.
No injuries resulted, and nearby homes – the closest about 50 feet away – were not threatened, the chief said.
The outbuilding and its contents were totally destroyed, according to Bowling.
By 10:17 p.m., firefighters had extinguished the fire and left the scene. The cause remains under investigation, Bowling said.
“Thank you, Omak Fire Department,” neighbor Jennifer Palmer wrote in a public Facebook post. “You guys kept the fire tonight at just the neighbor’s barn/shed. We are so lucky you kept our garage and homes safe.”
