African Adventures makes stop in Tonasket

African Adventures tourists take a rest break along Frontage Road south of Tonasket Wednesday, Oct. 24.

TONASKET - A group of tourists from Europe rolled through the region Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The group of about 20 people — with African Adventures — made a rest stop near Janis Bridge after coming down from Canada en route to Seattle.

“We started our trip more than two years ago in South America in Argentina,” African Adventures owner Athos Ghiringhelli said.

“Shipping our cars by ferry, (we) toured all of South America … now we’re going up, and up, and up.”

According to the company’s website, the business was formed in 2001 as a way to bring tourists to the “most beautiful and wild places on the planet.”

“We are from Europe,” he said adding, “now we decided it’s time to visit the U.S. and Canada.

Ghiringhelli said while in South America, the group toured through Costa Rica and Nicaragua before going through Mexico

“We love the U.S.,” he said. “We visited most of the national parks down in Utah, Colorado and California.”

The group also includes a mechanic, should they experience vehicle troubles, and a medical doctor.

While the cost of traveling and transporting vehicles from continent to continent can be expensive, he said it’s worth it so the group can stop and take in all the sights.
