Conconully dishes up stew, brew

Nearly 200 people attended the annual Stew and Brew Saturday in the Conconully Community Hall.

CONCONULLY — Organizers are calling the annual Stew and Brew a success.

Around 200 people enjoyed a variety of stews and brews, sampling a little of everything so they could vote for the winners. This is one party for which it is unwise to arrive “fashionably late” the stews are so good that they disappear quickly.

The stew winner, for the second year, was Comstock Motel’s German stew. Comstock owner and Mayor Sam Martin has this stew down to perfection and this year was no exception. The other stews in competition were also exceptional – a hard choice for voters.

The Conconully Fire Department presented an Italian stew, Liars Cove gave a choice of a Southwest stew in mild, medium and hot, Red Rock Saloon served up a delicious old fashioned beef stew and the Conconully Chamber of Commerce presented a fish and seafood stew.

The prize for the best presentation went to Red Rock Saloon.

The brew winner was a surprise to all – it was Yakima-based Tieton Cider Works’ apricot cider.

Ole Swede Cider Works of Havillah served up their nine-apple cider.

Other breweries attending were Burwood Brewery, Walla Walla, Bale Breaker Brewing Company, Yakima, Leavenworth Brewery and Icicle Brewing, Leavenworth, Paradise Creek Brewery, Pullman.

The Stew and brew will be back again next year on the last Saturday in September.
