Hawk festival planned for this weekend

Hawks are the focus of Pateros festival.

PATEROS – The annual Chelan Ridge Hawk Migration Festival is set for Sept. 14-15 in Memorial Park

On Friday, a workshop is planned with a HawkWatch International representative talking about raptor migration and field identification. A trip is planned to and from Chelan Ridge, and another field trip is planned from 8 a.m. to noon to the Wells Wildlife Refuge.

On Saturday, events from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the park include free activities, vendors, live raptors, interpretive booths, projects for children and field trips to Chelan Ridge.

The event is staged by the Chelan and Entiat ranger districts of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, North Central Washington Audubon Society and HawkWatch International.

Related workshops are at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Chelan Chamber of Commerce office, 216 E. Woodin Ave., and 7 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Pateros Fire Hall, 191 Industrial Way.
