Chamber music festival pre-events start July 14

TWISP — The Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival runs July 26 to Aug. 4, with a couple pre-festival events set for this weekend.

The Strum Quartet will perform at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at TwispWorks, 502 S. Glover St., for a “chamber music 2.0” event.

On Sunday, Kevin Krentz and Haeyoon Shin will perform on cellos at 5:30 p.m. at the Freestone Inn and Cabins, 31 Early Winters Drive, Mazama.

The festival begins Thursday, July 26, at Signal Hill Ranch, 115 Signal Hill Road, Twisp.

Performers include Narek Arutyunian, clarinet; Maurycy Banaszek, viola; Brittany Boulding, violin; Kenny Broberg, piano; Nathan Chan, cello; Mara Gearman, viola; Emilie-Anne Gendron, violin; Paul Hansen, percussion; Ariana Kim, violin; Matthew Kocmieroski, percussion; Ayane Kozasa, viola; Kevin Krentz, cello and artistic director; Caitlin Lynch, viola; Ryan MacEvoy McCullough, piano; Deanne Meek, mezzo soprano; Karen Ouzounian, cello; Grace Park, violin; Miho Saegusa, violin; Haeyoon Shin, cello; Mikhail Shmidt, violin; Rob Tucker, percussion; Elena Urioste, violin, and Catherine Weill, piano.

Speakers are Dave Beck, host; Carolanne Steinbach, lecturer; Dave Ward, stargazer; Lynette Westendorf, lecturer, and VerneWindham, host.

A pre-concert conversation with the Aizuri Quartet is planned at 6:30 p.m. July 26, followed by a center stage concert at 7:30 p.m. and stargazing with David Ward at 10 p.m.

Open rehearsals for center stage concerts are at 9:30 a.m., with a wall of art also offered. The grounds open at 5:30 p.m., with food and drink available for purchase. Pre-concert presentations, the concert and after-glow parties follow.

Fellowship Quartet will perform at 5 p.m. Friday at Sun Mountain Lodge, 604 Patterson Lake Road, Winthrop.

On Saturday, July 28, the Fellowship Quartet will perform at 1 p.m. at Shafer Museum, 285 Castle Ave., Winthrop. A pre-concert presentation is planned at 6:30 p.m. at Signal Hill Ranch, followed by a center stage concert.

Sunday activities include Fellowship Quartet performances at 2 p.m. at the Mazama Store, 50 Lost River Road, and 5 p.m. at the Methow Valley Ciderhouse, 28 Highway 20, Winthrop.

Tuesday, July 31, includes a pre-concert conversation with Van Cliburn silver medalist Kenny Broberg at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. center stage concert at Signal Hill Ranch.

Events wrap up Saturday, Aug. 4, with a pre-concert recital at 6:30 p.m. by the Fellowship Quartet and a 7:30 p.m. center stage concert.

Performances include pieces by a variety of composers, including Bela Bartok, Felix Mendelssohn, Antonio Vivaldi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Dmitri Shostakovich, Franz Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Maurice Ravel, Ottorino Respighi and Antonin Dvorak.
