NESPELEM – The annual Millpond Days celebration will be June 15-16 in downtown Nespelem.

The event kicks off Friday with a 5 p.m. potluck in the town park. Grand marshals will be honored.

A talent show, open microphone, dance and movie run from 9-11 p.m.

Talent show categories include youngsters (ages 5-9), teens (ages 10-17) and adults and silver foxes (age 18 and older). Cash prizes will be given.

On Saturday, a 5K memorial run in honor of the late Eldon Wilson, will begin at 8 a.m. in the park. Late registration will be accepted until 7:30 a.m. The first 100 registrants can participate free, but after that a fee will be charged. Participants will receive T-shirts.

Several age categories will be offered.

Wilson, an avid runner who competed in races across the country, was a longtime organizer of the run/walk. He died Jan. 10, 2017, in Spokane at age 73.

The senior center will host a breakfast.

The grand parade begins at 11 a.m. Lineup and judging will be on C Street and Fifth Street at 10 a.m. The theme is “Honoring All Veterans and Auxiliary.”

Categories include business/program, school, music band, rez car/truck, Colville Business Council, tribe/family, horse, veteran/auxiliary, club/organization/church, community/town/city, bicycle, best dog, car (classic, race, etc.), royalty and ATV/motorcycle.

A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is planned, with categories for youth, grades three through eight in the fall; high school, grades nine through 12 in the fall, and adult. Male, female and co-ed divisions are planned.

Each player will get a T-shirt. Bracket winners receive sweatshirts.

A per-player fee will be charged.

Also planned is a youth/adult horseshoe tournament. There’s no entry fee, but there is a 20-team limit.

Street activities, bicycle activities and a poker run round out the events.
