Omak band students plan May 29 concert

OMAK — All Omak band students will give a concert at 7 p.m. May 29.

The event, in the Omak Performing Arts Center, 14 S. Cedar St., features beginning band, middle school percussion ensemble, middle school concert band, high school jazz band and high school concert band.

The middle school band will perform a piece called “The Road Unknown,” by Richard Meyer, said band director Calvin Gorman. It is a tone poem that tells a story through the music about a small-town boy who sees a patriotic parade in town during the Civil War era, joins the Army and goes to war. Through various themes, as movies do, the story is told through the music.

The jazz band plans to perform “Sabor de Cuba,” by Victor Lopez. It is a Latin jazz chart that will feature secondary choral teacher Don Pearce on piano.

Finally, the high school concert band will perform selections from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and will also perform “Seal Lullaby,” by Eric Whitacre, with Omak High School senior Dawson Click on piano.
