Tonasket man featured on History Channel

Salem Straub shows off his blacksmith skills on Artisan Row during the Okanogan Family Spring (Barter) Fair last year.

TONASKET - What started out as a childhood fascination for swords and knives has led a local man to the world of reality TV.

Salem Straub, 32, will appear on an episode of the History Channel’s “Forged in Fire” program at 7 and 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A screening of the show is planned at The Kuhler, 302 N. Whitcomb Ave.

“If you can, try to be there early,” Straub said Thursday morning.

The program features four bladesmiths who compete in a three-round elimination contest to forge bladed weapons.

The winner will receive $10,000 and the championship title for that episode.

We’re working on a complete story for our Sunday, Feb. 21 edition of The Chronicle.
