COLVILLE — A former Riverside resident has been named regional publisher of Horizon Publications’ operations in Colville and Deer Park.
Roger Harnack, 50, formerly publisher of The Omak-Okanogan County Chronicle, took over the post overseeing The Statesman-Examiner, The Sun, The Deer Park Mid-Week Extra, Deer Park Tribune and their press plant, internet and social media services Sept. 10.
The newspapers’ coverage spans the U.S. Highway 395 corridor from north Spokane to Orient, and from Republic east to the Ione area.
Harnack replaces Jesse Mullen, who has purchased newspapers in Deer Lodge and Phillipsburg, Mont., and is relocating to that area.
Returning to northern Washington is a quality of life choice, Harnack said.
“I missed my home in Tunk Valley, residents of the area, and the mountains and woods,” Harnack said. “I look forward to providing top-notch news services once again to the region.”
For about three years, Harnack has served publisher of The Daily Sun in Sunnyside. Prior to that, he served more than seven years as publisher of The Chronicle.
“Roger is a highly talented newspaperman and I’m delighted he has chosen to join the Statesman-Examiner as its publisher,” outgoing regional publisher Jesse Mullen said. “We’ve had tremendous growth in 2018, and he’s the perfect person to maintain our momentum as I leave to run the newspapers I purchased in Montana.”
Harnack is looking forward to settling into the community and position.
“This is a great place to be,” Harnack said. “I’m happy to be back in the region.”
