WINTHROP — The Methow Valley School District will be closed today due to last night’s heavy snowfall.

District officials said snow, downed trees, sporadic power outages and hazardous driving conditions contributed prompted closure through Thanksgiving weekend.

"This is the wettest snow I've ever seen," Liberty Bell transportation supervisor Hunter Maltais said. "We had three buses stuck Tuesday due to downed trees."

The last school closure due to snow was seven years ago, Maltais said.

School is slated to resume Monday, Dec. 1.
