OKANOGAN — Okanogan County Fair Advisory Committee members unanimously approved the theme for next year’s fair during a regular meeting Thursday, Nov. 8.
The theme will be “American Flair at our County Fair.”
Chairman Mike Egerton said he asked this year’s fair queen, Katie Keane, to come up with possible themes.
Other possible themes included “Home is Where the Barn is,” and “Barn in the U.S.A”
“I’m OK with any of them,” Egerton said.
Keane said she will be asking local resident to submit photos — via social media — that best represent the fair’s theme. They could be used on the cover of the fair’s premium book and appear on posters.
“I think the more involvement you can get from the county, the better,” Egerton said.
In other fair business, the committee:
• Learned they will need to submit a supplemental budget to county commissioners, as the fair is about $18,000 over budget. Some bills have yet to be paid.
“Unfortunately, you’ve gone over budget and we need to do a supplemental,” said Pam Johnson, Okanogan County deputy treasurer. “We have the forms and we have to submit it to the commissioners; they have to approve it.”
Johnson said operating supplies were over by $6,835 and professional services were over by $6,384.
• Discussed a proposed VIP tent for buyers at the annual stock sale. Livestock coordinator Sam Buchert said it would be a way to show appreciation to returning bidders.
• Discussed possible changes to animal pre-registration dates.
