OROVILLE — Roger and Bridget Hammond just opened ProStaff Real Estate a few weeks ago, but already have a couple of transactions in escrow.
“We are very fortunate to have hit the ground running,” said Bridget.
The couple moved over from Issaquah in June, and bought the building at 1620 Main St., where they run the real estate business as well as Oaktree Home Inspections.
“We’re happy to be here, it’s been a fight to get back,” said Roger, who attended Oroville High School and played on the ’88-’89 basketball team. Roger went on to play basketball and earned his degree at Seattle University.
The Hammonds recently relocated their real estate and home inspection businesses to Oroville from Issaquah.
“Our kids went away to college, so we decided we could come over and live where we wanted to,” said Bridget, who grew up on the coast. “Roger brought me over here right after we met, and we’ve been coming over here during summers and every chance we get.”
After purchasing the former Blossom & Briar building, they jumped into renovations, including cutting a taller door inside the office so Roger can pass through it at his full height of 6’8”.
Despite updating the office, the business is already thriving.
“We are delighted to have several listings already and look forward to sharing how we can help as many people as possible, whether they are selling or buying,” said Roger, who was licensed as a real estate agent in 2003 and opened his own business in 2005.
Bridget earned her license a year and a half ago.
“We offer a discounted listing fee of 1 percent to our clients and provide full service,” said Roger. “Most agents charge a three percent listing fee, sometimes more.”
Roger said when someone uses a ProStaff agent to buy a home or property, ProStaff rewards their clients with a buyer bonus of 25 percent of the commission earned by ProStaff in the form of a purchase price reduction, or assistance toward closing costs.
As an example, Roger said a home purchased for $200,000 that offered a 3 percent commission of $6,000, would result in the customer getting a $1,500 discount.
“If you know you are going to buy a house or property, why wouldn’t you come here?” said Roger.
Roger is both a certified home inspector and certified mold inspector.
“All home inspection fees are $300 with a written report,” said Roger. “We have thermal imaging cameras and do drone videos to get pictures of places you can’t get to with a ladder.”
He has conducted more than 2500 home inspections.
Nearly one thousand of those inspections were done with Redfin, a real estate brokerage based in Seattle.
Redfin asks customers to leave a review of their home inspector and provides this list on their website.
“I was able to earn a preferred status with Redfin and have maintained a 4.9/5.0 rating,” said Roger.
The Hammonds also appear well-liked as they settle into the community again.
“It’s really nice to get to see all of the people on a regular basis who we looked forward to seeing when we’d come over to visit. The community has been very welcoming, stopping in to say ‘hi’ and welcome us here, even people we hadn’t met before,” said Bridget. “It’s such a nice group of people.”
Bridget said their kids, Ethan and Tessa, also enjoy coming to visit.
“They like it here, too. This was a good part of their childhood, coming over to fish and do other fun stuff.”
