Hospital sees higher patient volumes
WENATCHEE — Confluence Health emergency departments have asked residents to help prioritize patients with severe illness.
Because of higher volumes seeking care in emergency departments, patients are experiencing longer wait times, according to a statement from Confluence.
Emergency departments across the state are experiencing longer wait times as they navigate through high volumes of patients with influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and other respiratory infections which have surged the within the last few months, particularly in recent weeks.
While these conditions can sometimes develop into illness that requires immediate medical care, mild cases can be treated at home with bedrest and over-the-counter medications, according to Confluence Health.
“With the sharp increase in the number of patients seeking care in our emergency departments, patients with less severe illness sometimes are asked to wait significantly longer than normal while priority is given first to patients with life-threatening conditions,” said Jason Lake, chief medical officer for Confluence Health. “We want to keep patients informed about these longer-than-usual wait times and thank them for their understanding as our staff and providers work tirelessly to care for patients with the most severe illness first.”
Christmas tree safety tips offered
OLYMPIA — The state Fire Marshal’s Office reminds families to be cautious this holiday season. Christmas trees have been known to start fires that can grow quickly. In order to increase fire safety, make sure fresh Christmas trees are chosen, and all heat sources are at least three feet away from trees, so chances of a fire are limited.
Additionally, keeping trees hydrated aids in preventing the tree from drying out, making the tree less likely to catch on fire.
The agency reminds residents that any worn cords, wires, and bulbs should be replaced. This will help to limit the danger of an electrical fire. Cords should not be placed under rugs or doorways, as they can become damaged, and dangerous. Before sleeping or leaving home, all Christmas tree lights should be turned off. For more information about fire safety, contact the state Fire Marshal’s Office at 360-596-3929.
