OROVILLE — The city council appointed Tasha Shaw to fill a vacant seat during a regular meeting Jan. 17.
Shaw will fill the seat vacated by Ed Naillon, after he was appointed mayor. Naillion was appointed mayor after then-mayor Jon Neal was elected county commissioner in November 2022.
Residents Chris Allen, Robert Fuchs and Russell Rounds were also considered by the council for the vacant seat. Shaw met with the city council in an executive session to discuss her qualifications for the city council.
“The council picked Tasha for a few different reasons,” Naillon said. “Her letter indicated a thoughtful and respectful approach toward working as a council member, as part of a team for the benefit of all citizens. Additionally, she demonstrated a desire to serve by applying to be on the Civil Service Commission after a previous letter of interest for a council appointment did not result in her selection.”
In other business, members of the Oroville Senior Center met with the city council as the center is preparing for board elections on Feb 7.
Nomination for Oroville Senior Center include Kellie Bellinger, president; Pam Shull, vice president; Teresa Carr, secretary; Debbie Clark, treasurer; and Tilly Porter, Raleigh Chinn, and Ruth LaFrance, board members.
