Brewster, Tonasket fall at state 2B volleyball

Tonasket fans Grace Cody, left, and Madi Larson show their support at the state 2B volleyball tournament at the Yakima SunDome.

YAKIMA — Brewster found itself facing elimination against Kalama at the state 2B volleyball tournament Friday morning.

The Bears trailed by two sets. One more loss and Brewster would not be advancing to play for fifth- or sixth-place at the SunDome.

Somehow, some way, Brewster clawed its way back into the match, winning the next two sets (was up 18-8 in the fourth set at one point).

But the Chinooks fought back in the fifth and deciding set to win.

That set off the Kalama fans into a frenzy in a match won 25-18, 25-23, 19-25, 20-25 and 19-17.

Brewster fans were subdued, watching their team depart the court a match short of playing for a trophy.

Earlier in the morning, Tonasket was knocked out of state in a consolation bracket match by Toutle Lake.
